Sophie
Osteopath

My passion for understanding the human body began long before my osteopathic
training. Growing up immersed in ballet, dance, and sport, I experienced both the joy of
movement and the frustration of injuries. These early experiences sparked a deep
curiosity about how the body functions, heals, and adapts, an interest that ultimately led
me to pursue osteopathy.
Treating patients within the Ara Osteopathic Clinic over the past 4 years has confirmed
my decision to pursue this career. Helping patients overcome pain and injury, and
supporting them in improving their quality of life, has been very fulfilling. I enjoyed
working with people of all ages. I was especially motivated by the difference osteopathic
care can make in the lives of babies, children, and young adults.
With my background in movement-based disciplines, I bring a strong understanding of
body awareness, coordination, and functional strength. I am especially passionate
about guiding patients through subtle changes in movement, posture, and techniques
that can significantly reduce pain and improve performance. Whether someone is
returning to sport, recovering from injury, or seeking greater day-to-day comfort, or
overall wellbeing my focus is on identifying and remediating the root causes, not just the
symptoms.
Outside of work, you will find me dancing, playing sports, spending time with friends and
family, or walking the dog along the beach.
Emerging from the worlds of retail and office administration, I trained in Sports and Health Massage. This basis impressed upon me the importance of the correct massage used at the correct time.
Over the years I have developed skills in deep tissue techniques, therapeutic, relaxation and sports massage. I apply these skills in conjunction with the needs and requests of the individual on the day, providing an
individualised session for the best outcomes.
Currently in my third year of training to be an Osteopath at Ara Institute of Canterbury, I hope to bring complimentary skills and philosophy to support my colleagues at MK Osteopathy in our mission of health facilitation and support. I welcome people from all walks and ages of life. I look forward to helping with a wide
range of concerns from chronic discomfort, injury rehabilitation to relaxation. While I am relaxing, you will find me in the Bottle Lake Forest, walking the beaches of North New Brighton or quietly puzzling with a cat by my side.
