Neurokinetic Therapy

Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT)
in Christchurch, New Zealand

Neurokinetic Therapy is a rehabilitation technique that addresses the root causes of pain and dysfunction by focusing on the relationship between the brain and the muscles. Unlike traditional therapies that often target the symptoms, NKT works at the neuromuscular level, identifying compensatory movement patterns that may be leading to pain or injury.

By retraining the brain to activate muscles properly, NKT corrects these imbalances and enhances the body’s ability to move freely and without pain.

Who can benefit?

Neurokinetic Therapy is ideal for anyone experiencing pain or movement issues that haven’t responded to other forms of treatment. It’s particularly beneficial for:

  • Athletes and Active Individuals: NKT is highly effective for those who want to improve performance and reduce the risk of injury.

  • Individuals with Chronic Pain: If you’re dealing with ongoing pain in areas like the neck, back, hips, or shoulders, NKT may uncover the dysfunctional patterns behind it.

  • Post-Injury Recovery: NKT is helpful for people recovering from an injury, as it corrects compensatory patterns that often develop after injury.

  • Office Workers and Desk-Bound Individuals: Repetitive movements and poor posture can create imbalances; NKT helps restore proper function.

What do NKT do?

During an NKT session, the therapist begins with a thorough assessment to identify dysfunctional patterns. Manual muscle testing is used to detect which muscles are compensating for others. Once identified, the therapist will use hands-on techniques to release overactive muscles and guide you through specific exercises to activate the underutilized ones.

Each session typically lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of your condition.

Many clients experience noticeable improvements even after a single session, as the brain begins to recognize and correct dysfunctional patterns right away. However, several sessions may be recommended to fully retrain and balance the body.
